Whatever the reason, I loved this novel for its more reasoned, reasonable, and entertaining strategies having less to do with the violence and violent taboo breaking so evident in Empire of the Senseless. Admittedly, there are a few dead spots in this conglomerate novelistic construction–part and parcel to Acker’s cut up and appropriating style. She married composer and experimental musician Peter Gordon shortly before the end of their seven-year relationship.
